Cermet Saw Tips
Dimensions: Metric
Description: Preformed saw tips made of hard materials that combine ceramics in a metallic matrix. Used to create the cutting edges of circular saw applications for both dry cut and cold saw.
Maintain Your Tool’s Peak Performance Under Extreme Conditions
Cermet saw tip blanks are small, preformed pieces made of hard materials that combine ceramics in a metallic matrix used to create the cutting edges of saw blades. The metal matrix often contains elements such as titanium nitride (TiN), titanium carbonitride (TiCN), or titanium carbide (TiC); however, other metal nitrides and carbides can be combined with Nickel or Cobalt binders.
Cermet blanks excel when used in ferrous applications that experience cooling problems. Cermet blanks’ heat-resistant properties and hardness consistency enable toolmakers to feasibly cut a solid piece in cold cutting and dry cutting. The blanks’ exceptional heat-resistant properties result in extended edge consistency, consistent cuts, narrower tolerances, and cuts without sparks.
Maintaining safety is extremely important, especially when cutting material that could generate sparks. When cutting a ferrous application, such as an oil and gas pipe, it's essential to limit the sparks that could cause damage or impact performance. Due to their unique anti-galling properties, cermet blanks can help produce excellent cuts without generating sparks, creating a safer environment.
Proven, Innovative Cermet Grade Availability
As the worldwide market leader in metal sawing, Hyperion is one of only a few manufacturers with the advanced technical capabilities required to manufacture cermets for ferrous and specialty applications. Hyperion leverages cutting-edge technology and industry experience as a partner supplier to continuously develop new cemented carbides and cermets with high hardness, elasticity, and ductility. By offering a comprehensive range of cermet grades, toolmakers can create tooling with faster certification, reducing testing requirements, lowering quality claims, and decreasing stock needs.
Benefits of Cermet Blanks
Cermet saw tip blanks exhibit substantial characteristics and benefits for machining tooling. These include high hardness, elasticity, and ductility. Due to their high heat resistance, cermet saw tip blanks are extremely hard at high temperatures and excellent for continuous ferrous dry cutting. With an extended edge consistency, cermets excel in producing consistent cuts, close tolerances, and shiny surfaces.
Thanks to their exceptional anti-galling properties, cermet blanks provide a spark- and dust-free cut with minimal material build-up. Generating a spark-free cut enables toolmakers to utilize cermet blanks in high-heat cutting conditions, providing a safe option for equipment and employees.
Hyperion also offers cermet blanks that can be tailored to maximize a toolmaker’s process. Customized cermet blanks allow toolmakers to choose the ideal formulation that best suits the material they are cutting, the cutting speed and depth required, and the overall machining conditions. By utilizing cermet blanks, toolmakers optimize their cutting performance and leverage cost-effectiveness by potentially extending tool life and reducing the need for frequent replacements.
Applications Utilizing Cermet Blanks
Hyperion offers cermet saw tip blanks in a wide range of cutting applications, such as circular saw applications for both dry cut and cold saw. The cermet blanks are produced in a wide range of sizes sintered to near-net shape geometries in combination with industry-leading grades. Hyperion also offers value-added features such as engineered designs with chip breakers.
Cermet Circular Saw Tips
Standard cermet saw tips are designed for use in the manufacturing of circular tipped saws. Hyperion’s assortment of saw tip blanks covers most geometries including tips for cold saws, dry cut saws, flying saws, and large diameter saws.
