Expertise in materials science yields higher performing grades for hardened steel machining

Toolmakers are continually seeking machining materials that offer enhanced wear and fracture resistance properties while delivering performance repeatability, all in a uniform layer thickness.

Hyperion’s BZN™ V-Series product offering has become a leader in machining across many workpiece compositions, component types, and applications. Developing new even higher performing PCBN (polycrystalline cubic boron nitride) with all the above characteristics in grades that meet Hyperion Materials & Technologies’ high standards was a challenge for our material experts.

In the end, we’re proud to say that we developed and tested four new grades we are calling the BZN™ VS-Series, all of which exhibit excellent tool life across applications and markets, including automotive, aerospace, construction, electronics, and medical. This project certainly put the materials science knowledge of our experts to the test.
