Cermets are sometimes used instead of tungsten carbide in particular metal cutting and other applications. The name itself reflects the nature of the material as they have properties that are a mix of both ceramics and metals.

Cubic Boron Nitride

Cubic boron nitride (CBN) is one of the greatest technological advancements for material removal. It was designed specifically for applications involving ferrous materials and is second in hardness to diamond with twice the hardness and four times the abrasion resistance of conventional abrasives. Hyperion's CBN and polycrystalline CBN (PCBN) products have exceptional thermal conductivity and exceptional surface integrity.

Synthetic (man-made) diamond crystals are one of the hardest materials in the world and are the optimal choices in material removal applications. Synthetic diamonds are superior to naturally occurring diamonds in terms of quality and consistency and have been an unchallenged participant in the material removal industry for over five decades.
