Hyperion Makes Major Investments in its US Diamond & CBN Manufacturing Center to Drive Innovation and Better Support Customers

12 04, 2024

Hyperion Materials & Technologies is excited to announce significant investment in its Worthington, Ohio, USA Diamond and CBN manufacturing center. These investments include the relocation and expansion of its Micron production facility with two new fully equipped cleanrooms and the addition of two new state-of-the-art water jet laser cutting machines for its PCD and PCBN offering.

The Micron relocation and expansion project, which started at the beginning of 2024 and is on track to be fully operational by Q1 2025, enhances Hyperion’s production capacity and capabilities. “This strategic investment positions Hyperion to further expand and develop its Micron product offering within the rapidly growing electronics market, including its Micron diamond products used in processing silicon carbide for power electronics. By consolidating operations in Worthington, Hyperion can optimize its footprint to streamline production and logistics within a facility that also offers space needed for future growth,” said Luke Eidenmuller, Micron Segment Manager.

For its industry-leading PCD and PCBN offering, Hyperion is investing in two water jet laser cutting machines which will be operational by the end of 2024. Water jet laser cutting technology employs a highly focused green diode laser beam surrounded by a thin stream of water, which accurately guides the beam while cooling the cutting zone, resulting in exceptionally accurate, clean and consistent cuts, producing PCD and PCBN segments with sharp features, perpendicular edges, no flashing or wire residue, and no heat-affected zone. "The refined quality and consistency of PCD and PCBN tips cut with water jet laser technology will reduce the amount of processing required by our customers and result in a more efficient fabrication process,” said Hilary Interrante, Diamond Segment Director. "As our customers’ tooling designs grow more complex, Hyperion will ensure it has the technology to support the industry’s evolution and help our customers remain competitive.”

These investments highlight Hyperion’s unwavering commitment to the toolmaking industry through innovative technological advancements, boosting the company’s capacity, capabilities, service levels, and product quality.
