Hyperion Materials & Technologies showcased an all-new series of super-hard materials during the 16th China International Machine Tool Show (CIMT) April 15 to 20 in Beijing.

Hyperion’s BZN Compacts VS-Series features a new chain of polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) grades for fabrication into tools for hardened steel turning and milling, as well as powder metal machining.

“The VS-Series offers a significant improvement in edge toughness while maintaining superior crater and abrasion resistance,” said Ken Grieshop, Segment Manager for Hyperion’s PCBN and polycrystalline diamond (PCD) products. “This enables higher levels of productivity, precision and consistency in manufacturing.”

The VS-Series complements Hyperion’s versatile BZN V-Series, which is considered the benchmark of hardened steel machining grades.

Hyperion also featured its Carbide Rods portfolio, which offers an exclusive combination of superior cemented carbide grades and dimensional precision that provide customers with the features and benefits required for demanding machining.

The Rotary Tool Blanks portfolio includes standard- and premium-grade solutions for tools in a wide range of applications, such as the machining of engineering steels, stainless steels, titanium and nickel alloys, castings, nonferrous and non-metallic work materials. In addition to standard and premium grades, Hyperion offers cut-to-length mill blanks manufactured to ISO h5 tolerances. This superior tolerance brings precision needed to increase machining productivity and performance.

“The use of Hyperion Rotary Tool Blanks delivers batch-to-batch consistency, performance and reliability, which makes us an excellent partner to our customers,” said Eduardo Favila, Segment Manager for Hyperion’s Rotary Tool Blanks business.

CIMT is China’s premier machine tool expo and one of the metal working industry’s big four global expos. The China Machine Tool & Tool Builders’ Association founded the trade show in 1989 to focus on technology exchange and trade of international advanced manufacturing. The China International Exhibition Center Group co-organizes the event every odd-numbered year. About 1,700 exhibitors and nearly 120,000 people attended CIMT 2019, which was held in the brand-new China International Exhibition Center.

The theme of this year’s expo was “Win the Smart Future Together.” Many of the exhibits and demonstrations focused on intelligent manufacturing, which is the integration of manufacturing and information technology. As a result, the show featured many of the industry’s latest technologies and products.
