Hyperion Materials & Technologies production facility in France celebrates 100-year anniversary

EPINOUZE, France — Hyperion Materials & Technologies’ facility in Epinouze recently celebrated its 100-year anniversary of being a manufacturing site. A total of more than 500 people that included employees and their families, retired employees, and residents and officials from the area marked this significant milestone with tours and other activities.

One of the activities in which the Epinouze staff engaged was to gather in the shape of the Hyperion logomark while a drone flew overhead to capture them on video.

 

The Epinouze production unit is one of 10 worldwide for Hyperion. The Epinouze plant manufactures tungsten carbide parts and components, and supports three of Hyperion’s key business segments:

• Rotary Cutters, which cut materials used to manufacture baby care, personal hygiene and medical products

• Insert Blanks, which the toolmaking industry uses to manufacture cutting tools

• Wear Parts, which numerous industries use for their wear- and corrosion-resistant properties in a wide range of high-stress applications, including fluid handling, food processing, chemical processing, stamping, mining and mineral processing, and oil and gas extraction

The plant also provides engineering and customer service support to many of Hyperion’s customers around the world.

Revol, a family owned French business that has been manufacturing culinary porcelain since 1768, built and opened the factory in 1919. Revol used the site until 1938, when it transferred ownership to Carbone Lorraine, which today has become the international French company Mersen, which is involved in advanced materials and electrical power. Ugine Carbone operated the site from 1970 to 1977, and then Eurotungstène ran the site from 1977 to 1980. The Sandvik Group acquired the facility in 1980 and operated it until Hyperion became an independent company in 2018.
