6UDPlus Steel Cord Wire Drawing Grade
6UDPlus steel cord is a high-performance cemented carbide nib blank grade for wire drawing steel cord fine and ultrafine wires. The unique formulation combines an ultrafine cemented carbide with special additives to maximize corrosion resistance and hardness without compromising toughness, providing the wire drawing die with magnificent wear resistance.
6UDPlus, developed and patented by Hyperion Materials & Technologies, is a premium wire drawing grade that provides top-of-the-market quality. Wire dies manufactured of grade 6UDPlus generate exceptional performance when producing steel cord, saw, welding, magnet, tire, and ultra-tensile wires.
Designed for more demanding applications with more substantial efficiency and longevity, dies made of 6UDPlus allow machines to run longer batches of wire and perform efficiently by delivering considerably less die consumption than most wet drawing grades.

6UDPlus Steel Cord Benefits
The advanced cemented carbide grade 6UDPlus steel cord provides several primary benefits to die makers. It significantly reduces the total cost of ownership by delivering more stability on the drawing line, improved machine uptime, networking capital reduction, and superior tool performance. These benefits maximize the value of wire dies, providing exceptional longevity. With repeatable and consistent performance, dies of grade 6UDPlus can be the superior option for wet drawing steel cord wire.
Frequently Asked Questions about 6UDPLus Steel Cord Wire Drawing Grade
6UDPlus steel cord is a high-performance cemented carbide nib blank grade that maximizes wire die longevity and performance when drawing steel cord fine and ultrafine wires because of its corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant capabilities.
Die blanks of grade 6UDPlus steel cord are available in various standard geometries, including ISO, JIS, DIN, R-Series, and EDM. They can also be tailor-made to fit your wire die design.
There are no size limitations when using die geometries in grade 6UDPlus. However, Hyperion recommends only using grade 6UDPlus in die blanks with bore sizes below 3 millimeters for the wet drawing process.
6UDPlus steel cord is best utilized for wet drawing steel cord fine and ultrafine wires. The cemented carbide grade is proven to provide exceptional performances with wire drawing applications such as saw wire, tire cords, welding wire, magnet wire, and ultra-tensile wires.
There are minimal changes to the die-finishing process when using grade 6UDPlus compared to conventional carbide grades. As a cemented carbide grade, 6UDPlus steel cord grade allows wire drawing blanks and dies to be finished with the same process parameters as conventional carbides. Toolmakers can use the same diamond compounds and machinery for conventional carbide grades.
When wet wire drawing, it is not recommended to mix dies made of grade 6UDPlus with other conventional carbide or softer materials. 6UDPlus steel cord has a superior hardness compared to any conventional 6% cobalt ultrafine grade or 3% cobalt extra fine grade. Dies of softer carbide grades will oversize faster than 6UDPlus dies, leading to an unstable drawing process. All drawing dies should have the same carbide grade for consistent and superior drawing stability.
